Travel agency integration with TripCase means everything’s automatic

Did you know all trip information booked through Sabre-connected travel agencies is automatically imported into TripCase?

Yep, it’s true. Once you’ve signed up for TripCase with the same email address(s) connected with your PNR (Passenger Name Record), you won’t have to lift a finger. Your flight, hotel or anything else booked under your PNR will automatically appear in TripCase. Even better, if any changes occur to your PNR it’s automatically updated in TripCase, too.

Your email address is the key to all this magic. Just make sure to create a TripCase account and include all of the email addresses associated with your bookings. And voilà, all your trip details are in TripCase. You can access them on your phone, on the web, wherever it’s most convenient for you.

Not only can you access your itinerary in one place via TripCase Mobile or TripCase Web, don’t forget with TripCase you also get:

  • FREE flight alerts for gate changes, flight delays or cancellations
  • Cool itinerary-based travel tools like alternate flight options and seat maps
  • Automatic itinerary imports and trip updates

So, why not give TripCase a try? All you need is an email address to sign up. After that, it’s automatic and it’s free.

At TripCase, we’re celebrating mothers across the globe

In case you haven’t heard or it’s slipped your mind, Mother’s Day is this coming
Sunday here in the United States. Translation: you’ve got five days to order
flowers, buy a card or figure out a gift for the mother figure(s) in your life.

However, if you live someplace else in the world, you might have already celebrated your mom this year, or maybe Mother’s Day is still on the horizon. Mom is celebrated in different ways on different dates across the globe.

For instance, if you live in Jordan or Lebanon, you’ve already wished your mom a Happy Mother’s Day. In your countries, Mother’s Day is always observed on March 21, the first day of spring.

Celebrating mum “down under”

In Australia, like in the U.S., Mother’s Day is always celebrated on the second Sunday in May. More than likely you’re giving your mom a Chrysanthemum this year. That’s because the flower is not only in season now, but the flower’s name ends in “mum” (that’s short for mother “down under”).

Also celebrating mom the second Sunday in May: Brazil, Italy, Canada, South Africa, France,
Greece, Japan, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Turkey and Paraguay, to name just a few.

Mothering Day and International Women’s Day

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, there’s a celebration called Mothering Sunday which always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent (March 18 in 2012). It started out as a religious holiday when people returned to the church in which they were baptized (their mother church), but nowadays it’s morphed into a day to honor mothers, similar to what we do in the U.S. and other western countries.

Some countries like Bulgaria celebrate motherhood and women twice in one year. Here, Mother’s Day is tied to International Women’s Day on March 8, a holiday that started as a socialist political event in Eastern Europe, Russia and Soviet Block countries, but today ranges from a general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to recognition of their economic, political and social achievements. The Bulgarians also take part in a separate holiday related to Family and Maternity called Babinden on January 8. Go mom!

Madre = Mother

If mom is in Argentina, you’ve a got a few months to get your act together – she’s not celebrated until the third Sunday of October here.

In other Spanish-speaking countries, Día de las Madres is celebrated on May 30 in Nicaragua and on May 10 in Mexico. In Portugal, where Portuguese is spoken, Dia da Mãe is held every year on the first Sunday of May.

Flower power and birthdays

Mother´s Day in Sweden is celebrated the last Sunday in May. The reason for the late date: so
everyone can go outside and pick flowers.

In Thailand, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the birthday of the Queen of Thailand, Queen Sirikit (August 12). Similarly, Father’s Day is celebrated on King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s birthday, December 5.

Cheers to mom!

To all the moms and mother figures out there from all of us at TripCase, may you be showered
with love on your special day, no matter when or where you celebrate it!

TripCase Spotlight: Connections and Arrival Updates

Friends, family and colleagues may need access to some or all of your travel plans for any given trip. This information may include your entire itinerary or just flight time updates, gate assignments/re-assignments or baggage claim information.

Below we outline two levels of information-sharing included within TripCase.
Connections are for people who need to know everything about your trip from A
to Z. Arrival Updates are for people who just need to know if your flight home is delayed, arriving early or if the gate changes.

Sharing your entire itinerary by designating connections

For those folks for whom you want to supply access to ALL of your itinerary and updates (say your assistant), email updates will be sent once you add them to your “Connections” in your TripCase account.

To do so, log in to TripCase.com, click on the Settings Tab on the top of the page,
and then go to the Connections tab within the Settings page.  There you can add the email address of the person you wish to include on your travel updates. A verification message will be sent to that person’s email address. Once the recipient has verified their identity and confirmed their email address they will begin receiving your trip updates as they occur based on the access you designate to them within Settings/Connections.

Keeping your ride in the loop with arrival updates

Most of the time, chances are your loved ones don’t need your entire itinerary (meeting locations, hotel, car rental info, etc.). However, they do need to know if your flight home is delayed, arriving early or if the gate changes.

To keep them informed of your arrival, select the trip for which you want to activate notifications. Next, click on Tools and then the Arrival Updates icon and select the travel segments of your trip you want to share. You’ll then be prompted to enter an email address. Once the email address is entered, the person will begin receiving updates for the travel segments you have selected.

TripCase Spotlight: Calendar Syncing with Outlook, Android and Blackberry

TripCase provides a number of different options for adding trip information to your calendar to help make your travel life easier. Most recently we reviewed iCal and the iPhone. This week we’re going to focus on Outlook, Android and Blackberry.

Three ways to add TripCase information to Outlook

  1. Automatically update a separate TripCase calendar in Outlook every time a trip is created, changed or deleted via a live calendar subscription feed.
  2. Update your existing Outlook Calendar each time a trip is created via one time import
  3. Update a separate TripCase calendar in Outlook each time a trip is created via one time import

To get started on any of the above options, go to TripCase.com in a web browser and click on the Settings tab at the top of the page. Then click on the Calendar tab.

Subscription Feed Option

For online calendars like Outlook that can access the internet, the best option is to set up a TripCase calendar subscription. To create a subscription feed, simply click on the “click here” link that appears on the Calendar tab page under the “Subscription Feed” heading. Or, copy and paste the url that’s provided in the same section into a web browser, hit return and then follow the prompts.

With a subscription feed, you create a separate calendar that appears as :TripCase within your existing online calendar. And, if your online calendar is linked to your Blackberry, the :TripCase calendar will automatically appear within your phone’s calendar feed.

The best part about having a TripCase subscription feed is that every time your calendar accesses the Internet, it will check the url to see if there are any changes to your itineraries since you last connected. This will keep your calendar synced with any updates to your itinerary within TripCase.

Accessing the subscription feed on your phone with something besides Outlook

If you use gmail or another email/calendar client, you might try getting the subscription feed started on your phone like this: copy the link into an email and send it to yourself. Click on the link within your email and follow the prompts. The feed should then appear within your calendar.

Allowing others access to your TripCase details via subscription

If you want to share your TripCase information with someone else’s calendar, you can send that person the same url and they too will have a subscription to your TripCase itineraries. At any point, you can change the url (to stop others you’ve given the url to from seeing your information on their calendars) or stop the TripCase calendar feed altogether.

One-time file import into existing online calendar and phone

If your calendar doesn’t connect to the Internet or you don’t want a live connection with your travel information, you can do a one-time download of all of your TripCase travel information and import it into your calendar. Please note, a separate :TripCase calendar tab is not created with this method, rather all TripCase information will appear directly in your existing calendar.

However, if you add or change anything on your trips, the information will not be automatically updated and you will need to re-download the file and import it again (or just manually make the change on your calendar if it is an easy change).

To import TripCase into your existing calendar, follow these steps:

  1. On the calendar page, go to the “Without a Subscription” section.
  2. Click on “download this file”
  3. Click the “save the file” option
  4. Within your existing calendar, select File > Import, browse for the .ics file you just saved and click “import”

Your TripCase information will instantly appear within your existing online and mobile device calendars (if they are already linked).

Similarly, if you have a separate :TripCase calendar within Outlook but do not have the live subscription feed turned on, you can import each trip individually like this:

  1. On the calendar page, go to the “Without a Subscription” section.
  2. Click on “download this file”
  3. Click the option to “open” the file using Microsoft Office.

Any new information will then appear in your :TripCase calendar within Outlook.

Viewing :TripCase in Outlook

The are two ways to view :TripCase within Outlook. A side-by-side mode and an overlay mode. To choose one, or to toggle between them, simply right click on the :TripCase calendar (under Other Calendars) and choose the preferred method.

TripCase Spotlight: Syncing TripCase with iPhone and iCal

At TripCase, our main goal is to make your travel life easier. And we know that if you’re like most people, you rely on your calendar to keep up with your busy life. That’s why we’ve made it easy to import your trip details from TripCase into your online email/calendar clients like iCal, Google and Outlook.

This week we’re going to focus on the iPhone and iCal. Next week we’ll explore Outlook, Android and Blackberry.

First things first

There are two ways to import your trip details from TripCase into your online calendars: 1) via live subscription and 2) one-time file import. To access both options, go to TripCase.com in a web browser and click on the Settings tab at the top of the page. Then click on the Calendar tab.

Subscription Feed Option

For online calendars and other calendars that can access the internet (like iCal or Outlook), the best option is to set up a TripCase calendar subscription.

And, if your online calendar is linked to your iPhone, the :TripCase calendar will automatically appear within your iPhone’s calendar feed.

The best part about having a TripCase subscription feed is that every time your calendar accesses the Internet, it will check the url to see if there are any changes to your itineraries since you last connected. This will keep your calendar synced with any updates to your itinerary within TripCase.

Accessing the subscription feed with something besides iCal

The subscription feed option works best with iCal integration. However, if you use gmail or another email/calendar client, you might try getting the subscription feed started on your phone like this: copy the link into an email and send it to yourself.

One-time file import into existing online calendar and iPhone

Your TripCase information will instantly appear within your existing online and iPhone calendars (if they are already linked).

Any bunny will tell you, TripCase makes travel easier

You’re going to New York on Thursday and Cincinnati on Monday. You’ve got to keep up with flights, hotels, rental cars, appointments, expenses. The list is long. And that doesn’t even include unforeseeable stresses like flight delays and cancellations or gate changes.

Hopping around from destination to destination and worrying about all of the little things that go along with travel are enough to make even the Easter Bunny a little cranky.

According to legend, the Easter Bunny (or Spring Bunny as he’s sometimes called in the United States) brings baskets of colored eggs, candy and sometimes toys to the homes of children worldwide. The rabbit and his eggs are a celebration of new life and spring and coincide with the Easter holiday.

Given his global travel schedule, the Easter Bunny could definitely benefit from using TripCase. Life on the road is tough, and TripCase could help make things easier for the old rabbit.

That’s because TripCase is more than just another run-of-the mill travel app. Sure, we provide critical flight alerts, weather delay updates, security notices and other valuable information (all free of charge, by the way). But we also monitor trip details, anticipate traveler needs and offer relevant advice and smart solutions whenever and wherever needed. It’s magic, sort of like the Easter Bunny.

TripCase always has your back while you’re on the road, helping you travel with confidence every hop of the way. We hope you’ll be a smart some-bunny and get TripCase today, so you can begin enjoying a spring full of stress-free travel.

What’s your favorite Easter candy? We love Peeps!

TripCase Spotlight: Combining Trips

If you’re like most travelers, you sometimes book trip elements through multiple sources for a single trip. For instance, for your family vacation to Disney World over spring break you went through a Sabre-connected travel agency to book your lodging. However, you booked your flight through your favorite airline’s website.

Like usual, you then imported all your trip details into TripCase. For the lodging you entered the 6-letter confirmation code you received from your travel agent and your hotel information was automatically uploaded. For your flight details, you sent the flight confirmation email you received from the airline to trips@tripcase.com and TripCase handled importing your flight information for you. And voila, all of your itinerary items were uploaded into TripCase.

However, when you looked under “My Trips” on TripCase, all of the information you’ve uploaded appeared as separate trips. You want to combine the items into one trip though. So how do you do that?

Not to worry, it’s an easy fix. When trip elements booked through two or more sources appear as separate trips within TripCase, follow these simple instructions:

  • Click on the blue Combine Trips button on the My Trips page
  • Check the boxes of the “trips” you wish to combine
  • Go to the bottom of the window and click Continue.
  • In the Confirm and Continue window, rename your “new” trip, click Combine and all of your trip elements are in one place under one trip.

We love to hear from TripCase users. As a matter of fact, TripCase Spotlight is based entirely upon user feedback. You decide what gets highlighted. Are there any TripCase tools or features you’d like to see discussed? Do you have any burning questions you’d like answered? Remember you can always visit us at TripCase.com or drop us a line on Facebook or Twitter.

Don’t depend upon the luck of the Irish, rely on the magic of TripCase instead

Anyone who has ever been to Ireland will tell you it’s a downright magical country of shamrocks, leprechauns and pots of gold.

Magical, yes. Lucky, not so much.

Despite what the saying “the luck of the Irish” may imply, the exact opposite  is actually more accurate. Ask any smart Irishman and he’ll tell you it’s probably not a good idea to rely on luck for anything.

And we agree, especially when you’re traveling.

So what is a traveler to do?

This same smart Irishman (or Irishwoman) will tell you (more than likely in song) to go directly to your nearest computer or phone and unleash the magic of TripCase.

For you see, TripCase is a one-stop web and mobile traveler services platform that, quite simply, makes life easier for travelers.

With its magical technology, TripCase monitors trip details, anticipates traveler needs and with seemingly supernatural powers, offers relevant advice and smart solutions exactly when and where you need them.

And the wizardry doesn’t stop there. TripCase also provides critical flight alerts, weather delay updates, security notices and other valuable information, all free of charge!

We’ve also added a bit of that Irish magic to our TripCase travel tools so you can have access to instant currency conversions, driving directions, alternate flight options, expense reporting and more. All with the snap of a finger.

So, this Saint Patrick’s Day be a smart Irishman (or Irishwoman) and empower yourself with the magic of TripCase and never rely on luck to make your travels easier ever again.

Our sincere apologies

We’re presently experiencing unusually high volumes which may affect our timely import of your trip information.

If you recently emailed us your trip details and you haven’t gotten a message from us saying they’ve been uploaded into TripCase, we apologize for the delay. Please note that we have received your emails. However, due to an unanticipated increase in volume, we have been unable to process trip details as quickly as we normally would. We are working hard to process all trips.

Thank you for using TripCase and for your patience and understanding.

TripCase has good news for travelers who like to travel green

The color green has many meanings.

It’s often thought of as the color of nature, symbolizing growth, harmony, freshness and fertility.

Green is also a favorite color in a package of M&M’s.

Green equates to all things eco-friendly.

And it’s also the color of Saint Patrick’s Day and the beer that’s often associated with this Irish holiday in the United States.

Since ‘tis the season of all things green – spring, Saint Patrick’s Day and green M&M’s (when isn’t it a good time for those?), we thought it’d be appropriate to announce that we’re now recognizing Eco-Certified Hotels within TripCase.

An Eco-Certified Hotel is an environmentally-conscious property that has gone through a rigorous audit, aligning itself with the standards and criteria of the Global Sustainable Travel Council. By doing so, a hotel ensures it is providing its guests with responsible and sustainable green living practices.

We’ll let you know if the hotel you’re staying at (or thinking about staying at) has this designation in the general hotel information we share within TripCase in the hotel’s amenities listing.

You’ll also see this information in the TripCase Message Stream as a reminder that you’re staying at an official Eco-Certified Hotel.

At TripCase, we take being green seriously and know our users do too. That’s why we’re proud to share Eco-Certified Hotel designation information within TripCase. We want you to travel easier knowing you’re staying someplace that is as committed to being environmentally responsible as you.

TripCase Spotlight: Adding extra events to your itinerary

You’re probably a pro at importing your flight, hotel and car information into TripCase. But what about that restaurant you’re taking your client to for lunch? Or the moonlight cruise you’re planning for your wife?

TripCase isn’t limited to standard travel itinerary items like air and lodging. Did you know you can also add activities, attractions, cruises, ferry rides, food, drink, ground transportation, meetings and rail? Well, you most certainly can. Let us show you how – it’s quite easy.

Let’s pretend you’re going to NYC for business at the end of March. You decide to extend the trip by a few days to see the sights and treat your wife to a little R&R in the Big Apple. You booked your airfare and hotel through your company’s corporate travel agency and automatically imported your flight and lodging details into TripCase by entering the 6-letter confirmation code you received.

But what about that ferry ride you booked online to visit the Statue of Liberty? And the tickets to see Ricky Martin in Evita followed by the dinner reservations at that ultra trendy restaurant?

Well, simply go into your trip under My Trips then Manage Trip and Add/Edit. Then, click on Add Something Else.  You’ll see a list of item categories of other events and activities you can add. You can put the trendy restaurant under Food & Drink, Evita under activity, the ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty underneath Ferry and the Statue of Liberty underneath attraction.

Now, whenever you want to view your extra events, you can always find them with the rest of your itinerary within TripCase.

We love to hear from TripCase users. As a matter of fact, TripCase Spotlight is based entirely upon user feedback. You decide what gets highlighted. TripCase Spotlight: The Power of TripCase Connect

So, you might be wondering, what exactly separates TripCase from the rest of the travel app pack? We’re glad you asked.

It’s TripCase Connect, our proprietary messaging platform that allows travel agencies, corporate travel managers and service providers (hotels and airlines, for example) the ability to send targeted messages to travelers and influence their behavior while on the road.

How it works

Because TripCase Connect is an itinerary-based communications tool, messages can be highly customized based on a traveler’s trip details like destination, hotel, airline, transportation, etc. As example, say DFW Airport is offering half-price parking inside terminal D on Friday, April 13. The airport can send a message to all TripCase travelers flying out of Terminal D that day. The message can be further targeted and sent only to those flying out between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

Travel agencies on the other hand, might use TripCase Connect to reach their clients with important security information. For example, a travel agency could send a destination-based message about a new security policy inside Charles de Gaulle Airport to clients flying in and out of Paris today.

Corporate travel managers often send messages focused on company travel policies, ensuring their clients are within policy, reminding them about preferred vendors and money-saving tips based on their location, destination and in-trip events like meals, meetings and transportation.

Endless possibilities

In reality, the sky’s the limit when it comes to the types of messages you can send through TripCase Connect. But here are a few more ideas of things service providers and travel managers can communicate through TripCase Connect:

  • A message reminding travelers of a company’s new reimbursement policy of not covering in-flight WiFi or hotel gym fees
  • A message telling a traveler to remember to decline rental insurance from a particular preferred vendor
  • Alerting a traveler how to inform the security team of a hotel reservation when it’s outside of a company’s program
  • A reminder from a hotel partner about the free shuttle they offer, or information about late check-out

Duty of Care for corporate travel managers

While housekeeping and operational trigger messages are definitely a bonus, ensuring the safety of travelers is the number one priority for corporate travel managers. As such, TripCase provides the ability for travel managers to create messages when safety issues arise.

For instance, say there is an unexpected and potentially dangerous situation taking place where you have travelers on the ground. Based on their locations within TripCase, you can send all of those travelers a message that alerts them to check-in with the agency immediately. You can include a specific link or a phone number within the alert.

Three ways to get the message out

TripCase sends messages based on device type via:

Push message (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch)

  1. SMS message
  2. TripCase Message Stream located inside the TripCase app or mobile web version. Open TripCase and messages appear on the main TripCase home screen.

Best of all, TripCase messaging works with all smartphones. So, no matter what type of device a traveler might have, he’ll stay connected with his travel arranger/agency every step of the way.

We love to hear from TripCase users. As a matter of fact, TripCase Spotlight is based entirely upon user feedback. You decide what gets highlighted. Are there any TripCase tools or features you’d like to see discussed? Do you have any burning questions you’d like answered? If you can’t wait for the next blog, remember you can always visit us at TripCase.com for more information about any of our tools and services.

Show you care by adding your sweetheart to TripCase Connections this Valentine’s Day

You know that lovey-dovey phase that happens early in a romantic relationship, when both parties want to know and share every single detail about each other’s lives? For example, maybe you want to share with your partner where you’ll be at any given moment during your upcoming business trip. Or, maybe you want to pick your sweetie up from the airport following his weekly flight home from ORD?

Well, if you’re at that stage, congrats and please read closely as we’ve got some important information that will surely make your romance blossom like a field of tulips.

And if you’re not in that lovey-dovey phase, chances are you’ve still got some people in your life (think friends, family and colleagues), who may need some or all of your travel plans for any given trip. This information includes things like flight time updates, gate assignments/re-assignments and baggage claim information.

So just how do you give your love interest, family members, friends or colleagues access to all your travel plans this Valentine’s Day and beyond?

Email updates can be sent to loved ones and colleagues by simply adding them as “Connections” in your TripCase account. To do so, log into TripCase.com, click on the Settings Tab on the top of the page, and then go to the Connections tab within the Settings page.  There you can add the email address of the person or persons you wish to include on your travel updates.

A verification message will be sent to that person’s or persons’ email address. Once the recipient has verified their email address, they’ll begin receiving your trip updates as they occur.

So, what happens if you break up and don’t want your ex knowing any of your travel details?

To remove someone from your travel updates, simply go into the Connections tab on the Settings page at TripCase.com and hit delete next to the address you wish to discontinue.

Can you add another email address for yourself?

Yes, you can add multiple email addresses for yourself. Go to TripCase.com, Settings and then find Email Settings in the lower right hand corner of the page. Add your additional address(es) and you’ll receive a verification email which will instruct you on how to receive email notifications at the secondary address(es).

Can TripCase send notifications for specific items, like flight changes?

Yes. Most of the time your loved ones don’t need access to your entire itinerary (meeting locations, hotel, car rental info, etc.). However, they do need to know if your flight home is delayed, arriving early or if the gate changes. To keep them informed of your arrival, select the trip for which you want to activate notifications. Next, click on Tools and then the Arrival Updates icon. You’ll be prompted to enter an email address. Once the email address is entered, the person will begin receiving updates for just the travel segments you have selected.
